Hello, I think my husband is finally on my side and we’ve decided to get intense about eliminating our debt.
To give you all the short version of the last straw, last week my husband took it upon himself to trade our 2001 almost-paid-for truck in on a 2006 way-too-expensive truck.
After a week of yelling I finally showed him the budget he’s been avoiding for years.
I think he finally sees know how we cannot possible afford this new purchase.
Anyway, we’ve decided to go through the house to find items to sell to get some money.
I was wondering if anyone in the forum knows of a good source to find the value of coins (most are 40 years old and from other countries) and dishes (I have a complete set of green depression glass dishes).
I’m willing to part with this stuff but don’t know where to start to find the value of it.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you, Melissa in WI

What about checking comparable listings at ebay? Or maybe google coin collections and see what comes up? I’ve been to a couple of auctions where people go crazy for the depression glass.
Good luck! Krista Krista Fleming *My blog: [MOD EDIT: URL removed]

check ebay and see if you can find a worth, then show that to him and see what he thinks then, esp.
if you can get lots of money for them.

I have not had a lot of luck selling coins on EBay (though I did have one sell tonight) for.
(You’re going to be disappointed though — most of them do not go for very much….)   You would actually probably get higher prices though for the depression glass! It seems to do well on EBay as does Carnival Glass and several other types that people like to collect!   Cat         Anyway, we’ve decided to go through the house to to of a good old and from other of this stuff but it.

You can get more money form somewhere other than EBay, BUT depends on how much time you have to devote to what you’re trying to sell.
Trade shows and such might be better, but you have to go to them and some of the appraisers may want to charge you a fee for looking at your things!   You Steve Garvey cary appears to be selling for a low of .99 and a high of 6.00 on EBay, but the bidding isn’t over yet.
Cat       And while we’re at it, my DH has 5-6 large boxes of baseball cards from when he was a kid (early 70s?) and comic books.
How do you find out the values of these? I know a lot depends on the condition, but there must be some place that says “1972 Steve Garvey card is worth $40-$2000, depending on condition” or something like that, just to get a general idea if it’s even worth pursuing more.

Your husband might be right on the comic books (that they aren’t worth anything).
My husband took all his comic books to a store after going thru 2 comic book pricing catalogs ( I think you can get these at the library, we did) and he thought he had about $5,000 worth of comic books.
He was hoping for around half or close to from the store.
He had 3 BIG boxes of books that he dragged 45 minutes away (closest store) and they offered him $30!!!!! He was pissed! Then we tried to sell them online at a place that people can resell their comic books.
I finally found out that at some point in the 70′s or 80′s, there were so many comic books and reselling of them or something, that they are now worthless.
I felt so bad for my DH as he worked so hard to catalog and price his books, for NOTHING.
    He was so bummed.
The baseball cards on the other hand……..

after these of we he so You know we went through the same thing with my DH Star wars collection.
You know those 4x3x3 ft rubbermaid containers, we had 7 of them full of toys and the local store that happened to also sell comic books and cards quoted $250…he had a Japanese Exclusive that was worth twice that alone.
The owner had told us the “legos” itself are not selling at all, but he was willing to take them anyways.
So we decided to take our chances with Ebay.
Two weeks later before he shipped off for the Army, we returned to the same store with a copy of of ou Ebay sells.
We had sold 22 of his Legos for well over $650…and that is all we sold.
We just happened to comb through Ebay to research what was selling.
My DH has a few comic books and baseball cards too, but the last time we looked, they really weren’t doing too well.
If you have the time you could try selling the individual high priced ones, but we too were told that it is much easier and more profitable to try to catch a comic book/card convention nearby.
    Good luck to you!!! Catherine

him your ebay sales? Was he happy for you? Or did he act non- chalant because he knew he was trying to low ball you? lol Michelle, Sorry so late, just busy getting my own homework done…LOL! His mouth hit the floor.
He admitted he did go on Ebay to check on a few things, but he did not check all.
Star Wars lego sets were not selling at all in his store, so he didn’t even check on them.
But you know he was actually pretty happy for us.
He knew the hardship we were facing with DH re-enlisting into the Army and the money was more as part a kind of BEF in my DH mind.
To get some bills paid and some savings.
So I know enough answers have been made on the lady’s DH card collection, but I am in agreement with checking in Ebay too.
Inspite of the money we made off of DH toys, the price books do not resemble the current market.
DH has a Luke, Han and Leia set 12in dolls from Japan “Japanese Exclusive” listed at approximately $550 in current price books, but on Ebay, none have sold in the past 2 months.
    No demand for it.
The price books are good if your are going to invest in homeowners/renters insurance and they want an idea on value of your collection.
But for selling purposes, local shops such as antique, comic and/or card shows as well as Ebay is the way to go.
