Most of the previous discussions have been about the extra
paycheck, but I’ve got the opposite problem.
I’m trying to figure out how I’m going balance
my budget in a 5 week month.  My income is the same whether we have 4 or 5
weeks in the month.  I have to buy a whole extra week’s worth of
groceries/dining/lunches.  The other bills are the same, but that extra
food really is a big chunk of my budget and I can’t figure out how to cut
without sacrificing my sinking funds/savings or snowball.    What do the rest of you do?   Shay

For this time, I’d cut the snowball and/or sinking funds, then I’d plan for that type of situation in advance.  Figure out what your average budget is for those items and then divide by 5, then start a sinking fund for “5 week months” and put money in it so that you’ll have the cash when this happens again.
Twice a year you will have a 5 week month.

Every month has about 30 days so if there are 4 or 5 weeks the days are still the same.
I get two identical checks a month every month.
I take out a chunk of my food [or any monthly] budget out of one and the balance of the budgeted amount out of the second.
If you find that you do need to stretch a little, you may have to give up on the sinking fund or snowball for a month until you adjust to the new concept.

I see your logic, but I always get groceries on Sunday.  I take
out money each week on Sunday for groceries.  Our “month” goes from
the 22 nd of one month to the 21 st of the next month.   So
some months I have 5 Sundays and some I have 4.
Maybe I just need to think about more about this.  I know there
are only 30-31 days, but still I come up short on those months.  There’s
a bit of blond on my head!   Shay

Shay, I second the Angel Food Ministries suggestion made by
    Gloria.
Our pickup date is this weekend and we order for the next month at that
    time.
It would be a good way to stretch your food budget.
    Tonight, on Dave’s
tv program, I heard him say that the average family of 4 budgets around $700 a
month for food (he also stated that this figure is going to change depending
upon where in the country you live).
We’ve really made a dent in our food
budget buying from Angel Food Ministries (we’re doubling up on the
standard package this month), purchasing doubles of the loss leaders at the
grocery store, and buying produce seasonally (well, except the strawberries which
are one of the only types of food I can coax my 2 year old into eating).
    We
also budgeted for a huge meat sale our locally owned grocery store had last
    month.
